SmartSapp: App launched to check kidnapping in schools
MineX 360 Services have designed an application that will enable parents and school authorities easily check when pupils get to school and when they depart.
The application known as SmartSapp will notify guardians of who drops off their kids at school and who picks them up and at the exact time.
This innovation has been unleashed to address the increasing rate of kidnapping, especially in schools.
Frank Natie, team leader of SmartSapp or Smart School Application, said at the launch at Holiday Inn in Accra on Thursday that the product seeks to ensure child security, parent convenience and promote smarter schools.
He noted that the current system of signing in and singing out when parents drop off or pick up their wards from school is sometimes inconvenient.
Frank Natie added that the manual system takes so much time because parents will have to queue to authenticate their identity before picking their wards from school.
He said the app will eliminate these cumbersome processes with the introduction of a scanning device and card that authenticates the identity of guardians in a few seconds.
Schools that register for this app get to access the profiles of designated guardians of pupils including their photographs.

The app also tabulates the number of pupils present in school every day because parents can indicate if their kids will be absent on a particular day.
SmartSapp is also connected to banks and Mobile Money services to enable parents pay various forms of fees outlined by a school.
An option has also been created to help class teachers rate the behaviour of pupils regularly for the benefit of parents.
Frank Natie announced that a pilot project was carried out and a number of schools have already subscribed to the SmartSapp.
